November 26th, 2010. tiyul number eight was more different than any other tiyul we have done. i know i said that we won’t do anymore tiyulim in the Jerusalem area but it turns out my dad discovered 4 new hikes in the Jerusalem area which we could do. today was not hot at all, it was actually quite pleasant. we left the house at 8:30ish and got there at 9:30ish. the hike started with a five-minute downhill rocky climb. then we got to a picnic area and set uphill on the Israel trail. then we set down and up one more time. this hike was very hilly. the reason it was not like any of our other hikes was because it wasn’t typical that it goes up or down and then back the opposite way, this hike went up and down multiple times with barely any flat spots. so then we followed the Israel trail/black trail downhill for a bit. then we kept on, on the Israel trail for another bit and then we hiked uphill once again. we saw many parks on the way, it looks like that place is very popular for hiking. after hiking up we got to the road but before we crossed the highway there was a huge cave, which we explored and was very interesting but it also smelled very bad. when we crossed the road we got to another park, which had a funky climbing structure and two sheep statues. then we decided that we did not have time to go an extra half an hour so we started to head back on the green trail. on one part of the green trail there was a cactus with some sabra’s on it so Imma decided to pick one and let everyone eat some but little did we know that the sabra had lots of tiny thorns on it and some of us were in pain for some of the time of the rest of the hike. then we kept walking and this part of the trail was pretty flat so we finished it quite fast. then we got to the blue trail so we headed up the blue trail that was much steeper than the green trail so it took us longer but it wasn’t as hard as the Burma Road because when we were hiking the Burma Road it was the hottest week of the year, literally. then we hit the Israel trail again and went up the same way we came. some parts were steep and some were not but it was the opposite as it was from when we came. then we got to the picnic spot and it was time for the final climb. I, myself, climbed it very fast so I could just be done with it already, Imma was behind me and Merav, Amir and Abba were behind. we got to the top on then we headed home. on the way back we stopped at Aderet (the mechina where Amir’s friend Simon went) to have ice cream and then we went home and had sweet, sweet showers to soothe our bodies.

Sounds like a fairly tough, hilly hike, but GREAT practice for Nepal.

Love the picture of the lizard, Aviv! They’re one of my favorite animals. (I used to have four of them.)
Only three and a half more months (and four more tiyulim) until your bar mitzvah! Are you excited yet? Looking forward to seeing you then!

Hi Aviv,
Sounded like one of your easier hikes. Am I mistaken, or have you grown taller than Merav and your mom?
I was disappointed not to see the cave. Why do you think it might have smelled so bad?
The pictures reflect a beautiful day, not too hot and not too cold. Perfect day for a hike!
I hope you’ll make time for us to hike when we’re there for your Bar Mitzvah.
Love and hugs,
Safta
